What this article doesn't mention is that some patients will be better able to tolerate the "copycat" version of the first drug to market. It is often true that when a company introduces slightly "tweaked" drug very similar to one it already has on the market that this is just a patent extension strategy.
Ultimately though, it is to the patient's benefit to have some choices in drug classes. This gives them a better chance to find a drug that they can tolerate and still be effective.
